Starting this thing up. Again.

I've had this website for a while now... it's been through a number of designs and permutations. It's been a classic WordPress blog, it's been a tumblr, but more recently it's just been sitting here gathering dust.

Makes blowing sounds with my mouth 💨

And now the dust has been blown off with as little spittle as possible let's get stuck into it.

This version of Dontcom is hand-coded using 11ty, Github, and some questionable javascript. I'm hosting it all on my own hardware in my own house.

So without turning this post into something bigger than it needs to be here's a list of things I've learnt or observed during the process of making this site:

  • I've really missed writing frontend code
  • I'm shook at how much has changed since I last did any real coding
  • Don't lean on Copilot too heavily as all it does is confuse, rather than educate
  • 11ty kicks ass
  • Sass is still my preferred way to write CSS
  • Markdown kicks ass
