Great looking form layout using CSS
-
Similar to Calq - but its a bookmarklet. Javascript to the rescue once again!
I know there are some of you who only use RSS to read this site…and thats fine. But now its time to crawl out of the RSS hole you live in and experience this site through a browser (preferably Firefox - but it’ll work in anything).
There are quite few reasons for the new look - the main one being I was sick of the old one. Here are some other factors:
So here you have it - the all new dontcom.com. It’s written in strict semantic XHTML1.0 and CSS2/CSS3. It is as accessible as I could get it without testing - so if you notice anything weird please let me know.
There are a million other things I’d like to ad and tweak and as time goes by you may notice things tightening up a little.
Oh - and one last thing before I go - happy Winter Solstice New Zealand!
It really saddens me when web designers/developers release a new design to the web and fail to build it using modern day markup.
Telecom, I’m talking to you. Its 2005, not 1998. Web browsers have come a long way since the dawn of the web. Please please try and keep up.
Telecom has just launched a new design for Whitepages.co.nz. Its not all that bad looking. Much like the old site but with rounded corners.
This site is aimed at a massive audience - all of New Zealand; from your rural farmer to your inner-city web geek. You’d expect a website with such a massive audience to be accessible…HA! You’d be wrong!
View the site in Internet Explorer - like the most of the country would. Try to increase the font size. Notice how nothing happens? How is my poor almost-blind granny going to be able to read the ever-so-small text? I’ll tell you. She aint!
Come on Telecom! Pull it together. Web Standards are a reality. Learn them, understand them, USE them!
I’m going to leave this post as is for the time being as I’m too annoyed to write properly so come back later to read a more thorough review.
The Web Standards Group has been around for a while and has been spreading the word in most major cities…except Auckland.
This is where Peter and I come in. As the two WSG core members it’s up to us to organise real-life meetings. So thats what we’ve done!
The gathering will be open to anyone interested in developing with web standards and will have the aim of creating the foundation for a regular, structured, Auckland meeting.
