10 Hardcore geeks braved the shitty weather to drive out to the shore last night to attend the very first meeting of the Auckland Web Standards Group.
I’m pretty sure the staff at Blankenberge Belgian Beer Café were a little scared of us as our conversation ebbed from total silence to almost unbearable nattering (give a few geeks some foreign beer and you cant shut them up!).
Among the 10 people who attended we managed to find 6 people who are keen to play a role in organising future events. Ideas were tossed around about venues and possible topics for presentations.
Here are some of the more popular topics people want to talk or hear about at future WSG meets:
- Web design for the old school designer/Basics of web standards design
- The DOM/JavaScript
- Selling web standards development to clients
- Improving usability and accessibility
Peter has thrown a page up on his website outlining in further detail what was discussed last night. It’s interesting to note the broad range of topics that may (or may not) fall under the Web Standards brolly.
Overall I’d say last night was a total success. It’s always awesome to meet new people who share the same views about the web as I do.
Go web standards!
